Caring For Turquoise

Turquoise is softer than you probably think. Although it is beautifully handcrafted to make striking pieces of jewellery, it is important to take care of your favourite pieces to avoid any damage. Often framed in sterling silver or gold, Turquoise is usually protected from any impact nestled safely inside. That being said, you should always wear your jewellery with pride taking care to not put your designs at risk especially when you take them off at the end of the day.

Store Neatly

It’s easy to forget when you’re in a rush but it’s important to store your jewellery neatly as soon as you remove it. Your bedside table or bathroom window sill is not a suitable place to leave your rings, earrings, necklaces or bracelets. A jewellery box or case is a worthwhile investment to arrange your jewels and most importantly keep them safe. We stock a stunning range that look as good on your chest of drawers as they do in your overnight bag.

Whatever design you choose there are specific padded compartments that keep different types of jewellery secure at all times. Whilst carefully organised in this way it eliminates any risk of becoming scratched by other items that you own.

Keep Away From Liquids

Turquoise can absorb liquids quite easily with it often being porous. We’re talking perspiration, body oil, creams/lotions or cleaning products. It’s important to take your jewellery off when cleaning or when in contact with fluids i.e washing up, swimming or showering. Water or cleaning solutions can damage your jewellery and alter its colour.

If your Turquoise jewellery does come in contact with any cosmetics or liquids its important to clean with a soft cloth immediately. Firstly use a mild soap solution followed by a dampened soft cloth. Once dry, make sure you place in a jewellery box to avoid any exposure to bright lights or heat, which can also cause discolouration.

How to Clean Turquoise

If you simply wish to give your Turquoise jewellery a clean, we advise to use a cotton cloth dampen by warm water. Gently rub the stone and then dry with a clean soft cloth, using a dabbing motion to remove any excess water. Never be tempted to use sterling silver or gold polishing cloths as they will damage the stone. These should be only used on the metal, which will take accuracy to not touch the gem as well.

We advise you to not use ultrasonic cleaners, chemicals, baking soda or steam to clean Turquoise. They could damage your piece of jewellery and ruin the finish.
